Otago Polytechnic

Otago Polytechnic, which was founded in 1870, is a public college  affiliated with the Public Tertiary Education Institution. The institute was formerly recognized as King Edward Technical College. The institute started its activities by providing working professionals with evening classes. It began providing day classes to high school students later on. The institute established the School of Art in 1921, which was recognized as the first art school in the world. The college separated into a secondary college in 1966. The center is in collaboration with the Institute of Kai Tahu. The alliance has helped broaden its academic program.

There are three campuses at the university, including the Dunedin campus, the Central Otago campus, and the International Auckland campus. The School of Architecture, School of Natural Sciences, School of Engineering, and School of Art are situated on the Dunedin campus. Two learning centers that provide computer training courses are on the Central Otago campus. For international students, the third campus, Auckland International campus, was been built. The Department of Business & Management and the Department of Information Technology are part of this campus. All the campuses seek to have the facilities that students need.

According to a report prepared in 2018, the institute has a total of 9,281 students. It provides research programs and programs for postgraduate degrees. It also offers language training classes, and well-experienced faculty members instruct the students. In a new area, student interchange projects help students learn a way of studying. Students also go with their faculty for industrial experiences to obtain awareness and information  to the industry. They have a possiblility to work as interns under the experts. The internships will later be added to their working experience. The institute also provides students of poor financial backgrounds with annual scholarship programs. Based on their overall academic success, students can access scholarships. Scholarships are issued by the institution’s scholarship committee. Depending on the need for student exchange programs, the scholarships come with different grants and prizes.
